Auto Reporter, New Delhi: Kia has made a significant impact in the Indian SUV market with its popular models like the Seltos and Sonet. Now, the South Korean automaker is gearing up to introduce another exciting SUV. Kia has recently unveiled a glimpse of its upcoming Kia Syros, a compact SUV that will be launched globally. It’s expected to make its debut in India soon, likely in the coming year.
Why Kia Chose the Name “Syros”
Initially, Kia had planned to name this compact SUV Clavis, but decided to change it as part of their strategy. According to media reports, the company considered the name Clavis but later dropped it in favor of Syros. The name “Syros” aligns better with Kia’s naming strategy for its SUVs, as models like the Seltos and Sonet already have names starting with the letter “S.” Given that Kia also sells Carens and Carnival MPVs starting with “C,” it made sense for the compact SUV to follow the “S” naming convention.
Kia Syros: Comfort and Space Focused Design
The Kia Syros has been designed with a focus on rear-seat comfort and interior space, setting it apart from other compact SUVs. Its boxy design with a flat roof and upright rear allows for more space inside. Compared to the Sonet, the Syros will offer more interior room, and it could compete with the Seltos in terms of size and comfort.
Electric Version of Kia Syros Expected
At present, Kia has not revealed details about the engine options for the Syros. However, it’s expected that the company will first launch a fuel-powered version of the SUV, followed by an electric version in the future. Both versions are likely to be available with front-wheel drive configurations.
The Kia Syros is expected to compete in the upper segment of the sub-4 meter SUV category, taking on rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza, and the recently launched Skoda Kushaq.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Kia Syros, as it promises to be an exciting addition to the compact SUV market in India.
